PS4 and Dragon Quest XI Top Japanese Sales

PS4 retakes the top spot in the Japanese sales charts, after the stock issues that have been affected Nintendo Switch for months have resurfaced this week. Sony’s console remains on top thanks to the effect of Dragon Quest XI and the Obon holidays, although the numbers are down from previous weeks, and will likely get lower after the effect of the holidays has past. While technically PS4 takes the number 1 place, Nintendo 3DS is at a very close number 2, with less than 100 consoles of difference.

Nintendo Switch had a big drop from last week, with online speculation suggesting that Nintendo could be saving stock for the release of Monster Hunter XX this week, which is also coming with its own bundle. This is why we should not draw early conclusions until we see next week’s data.

On the software list there were very few new releases, with the only relevant being a package of all the expansions of the MMORPG Dragon Quest X for PS4. Dragon Quest XI and Splatoon 2 kept occupying the top 3 with soft drops thanks to the Obon holidays.
