The PlayStation 4’s latest system update is hitting beta testers today which means we finally get an idea of what the new OS contains. Some big new features are coming to your console, so you’ll want to know about this even if you aren’t part of the beta program. Here’s what’s contained in PS4 System Update 5.5.
There’s a few headline features for PS4 System Update 5.5, including Play Time Management, Custom Wallpapers via USB, and various notification enhancements. The first is a new feature for Parental Controls, allowing guardians to set limits on the amount of play time their children are allowed. “Managing Playtime is easy; go to Settings > Family Management on your PS4, or log into your PlayStation account on your web browser from your PC or smartphone, to check and manage your child’s playtime each day.”
The PS4 Library is being updated as well, adding two new tabs titled “This PS4” and “PS Plus”. This PS4 organizes all of your installed applications, helping sort through the large collection of games and apps many have accumulated. The PS Plus tab will show all the games available to you thanks to your membership, such as current and previous free titles. If you let your membership expire the tab will lock so you can still see, but not play these titles.
You will also be able to hide certain apps to help organize everything more easily. Check out the rest of the details here, and get ready for PS4 System Update 5.5 to roll out to all users some time soon.
