The Xbox One managed to jump back out front of the PS4 in April, which had many wondering if the Xbox One could have some major momentum leading into E3. The monthly NPDs for May are out now though and it appears that PS4 managed to snatch back the throne for this month at least.
With a solid lineup of games already announced and PS4 more barren at this point, it would have been a big victory if Xbox One could win two in a row. However, Sony’s PS4 jumped out front again, though we have no idea by how much.
Sony not only lead the month in hardware sales, but also software. Specifically, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt led the charge, with it very likely doing best on PS4 considering these numbers. In an interview with Gamesbeat, a Sony spokesman had the following to say about their victory in May.
“As we head into E3, we would like to thank gamers for making PS4 the top-selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May.”
While the PS4 did win May, it was still a great month for Xbox One regardless. No actual numbers were released, but Microsoft did report that 81% more Xbox One consoles were sold in May 2015 than were in the same month a year ago.
The real interesting NPDs will be June’s, which follow E3 of course. Who do you think will win the June NPDs? Make sure to let us know in the comments below.
