Ever since the acquisition of the once prominent developer Rare by Microsoft years ago, the company has been mostly delegated to projects that did not suit their strengths. Most recent, they brought us a number of Kinect games, including most recently Kinect Sports Rivals. However, they are said to be working on their next major game, which hints seem to point at being something much more than a Kinect game. Now, Xbox head Phil Spencer has made a statement on Twitter that is bound to excite Rare fans.
- “Got to play the new
@RareLtd game today. Rare building a uniquely Rare game, as it should be. Great visit to the studio.”
Previously bringing us classics like Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie, Rare has quite the resumé, so hopefully we can see a return to form with their next game based on this comment. I’m still really hoping it is a true follow-up to an old franchise like Banjo-Tooie, but with the recent trademark for Battletoads, it could even be that as well. The more likely choice is that it is probably a new IP, but we’ll just have to wait and see at this point.
The fact that he mentioned that he got to play the game shows that the game is at least a decent ways into development, so hopefully an announcement will come soon.
