Rayman has been announced to appear in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. Although he’s not exactly appearing in the game as a fighter.
In a Miiverse update, Sakurai announced that a Rayman trophy will be appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ubisoft sent Nintendo data so that they could render a 3D Rayman to put in as a trophy. They were expecting a 2D model, and were happy Ubisoft sent in a 3D model instead.
Too bad this does not confirm that Rayman will appear in Super Smash Bros. as a playable character. Rayman is one of Ubisoft’s most recognizable characters. He would have fit perfectly against the likes of Mario and Luigi. After all, Rayman is famous for his 2D-style platform games too. He’s also efficient in combat.
Hopefully this is just a tease from both Nintendo and Ubisoft and Rayman is revealed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. very soon. It makes no sense to have a character as popular as him just to appear as a trophy.
Nintendo did announce a new character is to be announced for Super Smash Bros. later today. We’ll update you on who it is when we know.
Super Smash Bros. releases October 3rd on 3DS with the Wii U version coming out in time of the Holidays.
