A creator known as Fiji recently shared her shift as a restaurant host in a TikTok video in what she calls “the glorified babysitting chronicles.” One memorable interaction involved a couple who arrived at 6:10 PM for a 7:30 PM reservation. As the restaurant was in the middle of a rush, Fiji explained that she could not seat them immediately, as reported by the Daily Dot. The restaurant host promised they would get the first available table.
Despite her clear explanation, the couple returned just 10 minutes later to demand an update. Fiji noted that she understood they were hungry and eager to eat. However, the situation became difficult when they started giving her attitude. “Whatever comes up first, you guys, I promise that it’s gonna be your table,” Fiji recalled telling them.
The stress of the shift continued as Fiji had to step away from the host stand to help deliver food to tables. She found herself in a particularly tough spot while carrying extremely hot plates. As the restaurant had run out of napkins to help carry the dishes, the restaurant host had to cross the floor with burning hands.
Her hands were burning, and the table just stared at her
Fiji said her last job as a server provided napkins for hot plates, but this restaurant had none left. “So I’m like, tacos or lasagna? Pick one. It’s hot. My hands are burning on fire. And they’re just looking at me,” Fiji said. Instead of offering help, the customers at the table simply asked to speak with her manager. The final challenge of her night involved a six-top table she had prepared for a waiting group.
As she checked in the guests who had a reservation for that spot, she noticed another group had already taken the seats. Fiji had to approach them to ask if they had been helped, then explain that the table was reserved for another party. The restaurant host asked them to relocate to the bar, which was completely open, but the group was not happy about the request.
They told her someone had said they could sit there while waiting for their drinks. Fiji said she told them it was “not a free-for-all table you can sit at, but at the bar, absolutely.” The group eventually moved to the bar because the restaurant needed their table for the reservation. However, they gave Fiji an attitude for the entire encounter. Fiji framed the video as part of her glorified babysitting chronicles, which suggests more stories from the restaurant host stand could follow.
