According to Laura Kate Dale, a prominent leaker of video game info, the highly anticipated Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be a timed exclusive for Nintendo Switch. This might seem pretty outlandish, but a few things stack up behind this rumor that at least make it worth noting.

“Beyond Good & Evil 2 codename is Odyssey. Exclusive to Switch for 12 months only, retail and digital versions. after 12 months digital on PS4 and XB1,” said Dale on Twitter.

First up is that it is coming from Dale, who has been the source for multiple major leaks over the last few months, including a near perfect breakdown of the PS4 Slim before it was even announced. She’s been focusing on the Nintendo Switch as of late, and has nailed a few things, with many more supposed to be announced at the January 12th event.

The other thing that makes this rumor worth mentioning is the fact that this wouldn’t be the first time Ubisoft went exclusive for Nintendo at launch. ZombiU was a Wii U exclusive for years before finally hitting PS4 and Xbox One. The game featured some Gamepad exclusive features, which should have helped sell the game and the console, but sales were utterly disappointing for Ubisoft. This likely should have warned them away from other such deals, but maybe Nintendo enticed them back. There are also rumors that Nintendo is helping to fund Beyond Good & Evil 2, so that could be the reason.

Many still argue that this doesn’t fit, and with a bigger Ubisoft title they’d likely be right. Beyond Good & Evil is a niche game however, and we’ve seen how Nintendo will latch onto niche titles and help them release onto their system, such as with Bayonetta 2 on Wii U. Could we have a repeat for Beyond Good & Evil 2 on Nintendo Switch? It would give it a headline generating exclusive right out of the gate.
