Rumor: New Zealand Director Attached To Thor: Ragnarok

It looks like Marvel is aiming to make a New Zealand director to helm Thor: Ragnarok.

According to a report from The Wrap, Marvel is eyeing Taika Waititi for the director’s chair for Thor: Ragnarok. People in America may know him as the director for several Flight of the Conchords episodes. He also directed the comedy “What We Do In The Shadows” too.

Negotiations are still underway, so this is not a done deal yet. This is mainly because Kenneth Branagh is busy and The Dark World’s Alan Taylor wasn’t interested in returning to direct Ragnarok.

If Waititi is indeed directing Ragnorok, it’s possible the movie could have a more comedic route. I’ve seen several of Waititi’s New Zealand work and everything he does is comedy gold. Some of the funnier New Zealand films he’s made include “Boy” and “Eagle vs Shark” just to name a few.

It is interesting Marvel wants Waititi for Ragnarok. This is a pivotal film in Phase 3 since Thor is searching for the Infinity Stones that will lead up to Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.

Hopefully Marvel makes an announcement on the director for the film very soon. I wouldn’t mind Waititi being the director as his films are always funny to watch.
