Rumor: The Last of Us Part II Might Take Place in Seattle, Washington

Recently, a post on Reddit has aimed to convince people that the upcoming sequel to The Last of Us will be set, at least partially, in Seattle, Washington. The post shows comparisons between images from The Last of Us Part II‘s trailer and concept art to real-life Seattle. The first post in a series of posts about the subject compared Seattle’s street signs and parking meters to those found in a piece of concept art for the game; the resemblance is uncanny.

Several months later, another post was made that compared the building in the background of that same concept art to a real building in Seattle, as well as comparing the plant life in The Last of Us Part II trailer to the kinds of plants that naturally grow in and near Seattle.

The most recent post on the matter compares a building in the background of another piece of concept art with yet another real building in Seattle. Once again, the appearances are too similar to just be coincidence. Additionally, the real-life building from the first concept art and the real-life building in the second concept art are just a couple of blocks away from each other in real-life Seattle.

The first The Last of Us saw Joel and Ellie in all sorts of locations across the United States, from Austin, Texas to Boston, Massachusetts to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jackson, Wyoming to Boulder, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah. At the end of the game, they eventually ended up with Joel’s brother in Wyoming, but if they are to go on another cross-country adventure like they did in the first game, it definitely seems plausible that Seattle could be one of their destinations and all these comparisons between concept arts and Seattle seem to be more than just coincidence.

The Last of Us Part II is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and is expected to release sometime in 2018 or 2019.
