SOMA got rave reviews when it released last year, and now we’re learning that the indie atmospheric horror game has done pretty well since it launched. Developer Frictional Games has revealed that the game has sold over 250,000 copies since it launched last year.
The news was revealed on their official blog, where they also revealed that they have yet to break even in the sales department. In order to do that, another 20 to 30 thousand copies need to be sold.
While 250,000 sales for an indie sci-fi horror game over the course of six months is nothing to scoff at, the dev does admit that the sales could have been better. They claim that the slightly-lower sales may have been the genres of sci-fi and horror being mixed, as some prefer one genre over the other.
However, there is lots of potential for the company’s future, as they reveal that they currently have two games in the work that will be more focused. They have divided their team into two to work on both of the games at the same time, so both will be making steady progress moving forward.
