Sony Reiterates First Half 2016 Release For PlayStation VR While Addressing $800 Price Listing

by Dean James

VR seems to be the next big thing in gaming, but whether it’s going to be a mainstay or just a fad like motion controls is something we’ll have to wait and see. PlayStation VR is certainly one of the biggest of the bunch set to come out and we are still waiting on a price and release date, one of which Amazon Canada seemed to release yesterday.

Amazon Canada made some waves yesterday when they had a listing for PlayStation VR with a price, though still sans a release date. According to Forbes, the price listed was at $1125.35 CAD, which ends up at at little over $800 USD.

This would be an astronomical number, as most experts are expecting the price to be somewhere in the $400 to $600 range. The price of the Oculus Rift just came out the other day and sparked controversy at $599, so imagine the backlash that a $800+ PlayStation VR would cause.

Luckily, it appears that this was just an error according to Sony, as they told Forbes that this price listing was a mistake and that they have not announced a price for PlayStation VR yet.

An even more interesting piece of information is that Forbes says that Sony reiterated that they are targeting a release for PlayStation VR in the first half of 2016, which many have thought to be crazy without a release date or price announced yet. This would seem to indicate an announcement has to come fairly soon, but at this point, the ball is in Sony’s court and all we can do is wait.
