Need For Speed: Most Wanted will ring in a new era for the racing franchise. With Criterion Games at the helm, Need For Speed: Most Wanted is set to deliver the open world freedom found in Burnout Paradise with an all-new twist. The game is set to arrive next week on consoles and PC, but is also arriving on the PS Vita, which Criterion thinks is just as good as its console couterparts.

Matt Webster of Criterion recently spoke with the PlayStation Blog about the PS Vita version of Most Wanted, and explains that their goal was to make “the same game” on the handheld.

“To make the same game – that was the goal,” said Webster in the interview. “As much as we possibly could, we wanted to deliver all the great things about the console version of the game: an open world, freedom of choice, variety, highly connected. All those principles looked like they were achievable on the machine, so that was what we set out to do.”

“It’s exactly the same game as the PlayStation 3 version apart from traffic density and number of players online. But I think that the asynchronous play is actually going to be more important.”

Need For Speed Most Wanted is due out on the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and PC next week. You can find the launch trailer for the upcoming racer, below.
