THQ Nordic has just announced SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, which is quite a mouthful. The game is a full remake of the beloved titles from way back in 2003, and honestly, this is probably something we never knew we needed up until now.
Spongebob hasn’t exactly had a great track record of good games, in fact most cartoons don’t ever have a good transition from the drawing board to a video game console. However, Battle for Bikini Bottom remains one of the most popular games in his repertoire, and arguably one of the best games in the early 2000’s. Combining platforming and collecting special items, Battle for Bikini Bottom was a fun filled adventure title that was suited for all ages.
Along with the announcement came a very short teaser trailer, and unfortunately no release date. Still, the fact that THQ Nordic is resurrecting the series in the grandest way possible shows that they aren’t going to let their IP’s just sit idle and rust away. Spongebog Squarepants remains one of the top cartoon shows in history, lasting over 20 years on the air and reaching legendary levels of ratings similar to The Simpsons and South Park who are also known for their longevity.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can check out the announcement trailer here:
