Square Enix has been teasing us over the last few days about a mysterious game that seemed to be pointing to something related to Star Ocean. Many hoped this would lead to a reveal for Star Ocean 5, though tonight’s earlier update to the website seemed to possibly dash these hopes, with the words being changed from just “STAR” to “START”. However, whether that site is involved with the game or not, it has been revealed that Star Ocean 5 is in fact in development.
According to Gematsu, the latest issue of Famitsu magazine has officially announced the existance of Star Ocean 5 that will be coming to not only PlayStation 4, but also PlayStation 3. The announcement also included that tri-Ace will be developing the game while Square Enix will be publishing. No images or other details were revealed, but the question now is whether Famitsu will have more information and images or if that was all it included for now.
With the previously mentioned website likely being tied to Star Ocean 5, hopefully this means the website will give us information and maybe even a teaser trailer tomorrow based on the date it is teasing of April 15 now. With Square Enix’s past trolling with sites like this that ended up just being mobile games, it is really nice to finally see one come to fruition as something major. Stay tuned for any new details as soon as we hear them about Star Ocean 5.
Update: The details of the Famitsu article itself have leaked with tons of new information from Gematsu as well. The full title for the game is Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. It is set 6,000 light years from Earth on a planet known as Feycreed. A few characters descriptions were revealed, including Fedel Camus, Miki Sorvesta, Lilia, and a few unnamed ones. Also the battles will be in real-time, with distance playing a major role in how attacks work.
