Star Ocean 5 Producer Shuichi Kobayashi ‘Definitely Wants To Make 6 & 7’


Star Ocean 5: Integrity & Faithlessness is set to release later this year, but it looks like the longtime franchise developers at Tri-Ace are already looking to the future of the franchise.

In a recent interview conducted over at 4Gamer with key members of the development team revealed a few interesting tidbits about the game as well as some of their plants for the title and the future of the franchise. The translation was later done by Siliconera to help western fans better understand the interview. A few key tidbits about Star Ocean 5 that the interview reveals is that  in the timeline of the Star Ocean franchise the game takes place between Star Ocean 2 & Star Ocean 3. The battle system s described as an easier version of Infinite Undiscovery‘s battle system as they felt that Infinite Undiscovery was a bit more complicated like an MMORPG, so they hope to make it similar, but easier.

It is also revealed that players will be able to have six characters in their party and will in turn cause large battles to occur. As previous games, players can change the AI in the various characters. The developers rae also promising not to make the item creation in Star Ocean 5 as complicated as the one present in Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope.

Finally, one the general topic of Star Ocean the producer Shuichi Kobayashi has revealed that the numbered Star Ocean titles have a pattern going. Odd numbered games have a protagonist with blue hair, while even numbered have one with blonde hair. He even spoke about his willingness to do more Star Ocean titles if given the chance.

“I definitely would want to make a Star Ocean 6 and Star Ocean 7. As long as there’s room for more new titles and the ideas for them, I have a sense of duty to keep the series going. Then again, that depends on how well Star Ocean 5 sells.”

Star Ocean 5: Integrity & Faithlessness is set to release later this year in Japan and sometime in 2016 in North America & Europe for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
