It’s been a little while, but fans of the Super Monkey Ball series finally have something to look forward to again.
Sega recently announced that they are planning on releasing Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD later this year on October 29. The game will be available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 at launch, with a PC version coming to Steam sometime in the winter. As you could probably guess from the title, the new game will be an HD remaster of the 2006 Wii game Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. Since the original game made heavy use of the Wii Remote’s motion controls, it will be interesting to see how much of these functions are retained in the HD remaster, particularly for PC players who use a keyboard and mouse, instead of a controller with motion control capabilities.
The Super Monkey Ball series had pretty regular releases from 2001, when the first game was released, through 2014, when mobile game Super Monkey Ball Bounce was released. This means that Banana Blitz HD will be the first new entry in the series in five years, the longest span of time between entries in the series’ history (as long as you’re counting all spin-offs and everything).
