Sony’s VR platform is coming out of the E3 with some interesting announcements, like Skyrim VR or its own Final Fantasy XV fishing game, but one of the first party titles that has caught most of the attention is The Inpatient, the new project from Supermassive Games that it has been surprisingly revealed as the next entry in the Until Dawn franchise, with this title acting as a prequel set in the 1950s.
Nik Bowen, one of the Game Directors at Supermassive Games, explains that The Inpatient will depict the Blackwood Sanatorium, over 60 years prior to the events of Until Dawn. But even though the game is set in the same location, it features a brand new story and group of characters, in a way that newcomers to the series will have no trouble fully enjoying the game.
The title will put players in control of one of the patients on the Sanatorium, who will try to understand why is he there and whether the owner of the place and the rest of characters have hidden agendas or they are trustworthy.
The Inpatient makes use of virtual reality’s expanded sense of immersion to feature psychological horror and a feeling of isolation and fear like it has never been experienced before. The game also counts with the collaboration of Until Dawn’s original script wirters Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, to make sure that the story is as tight as in the original.
The Inpatient will be released for PlayStation VR at a date to be determined. Watch the trailer below.
