Saving possibly the biggest announcement for last, today’s Nintendo Direct closed with what many Nintendo fans have long waited for: a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. This Game Boy classic is seen by many as one of, if not the very best game in the series, and a remake with updated graphics could do wonders. Of course, it wouldn’t be a new Zelda announcement if there wasn’t some controversy, with a new art style that might not be what many fans were expecting.

Of course, after The Wind Waker, Zelda fans should know to give a lot of leeway in terms of new visual styles in this franchise. The real news is that Link’s Awakening is back and looks better than ever. The trailer opens with a gorgeous, Studio Ghibli-style animated intro that mirrors the Game Boy original. The gameplay shifts things quite a bit, featuring what seems like a spin off of the visuals of the excellent The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening doesn’t yet have a firm release date, but it’s said to arrive in 2019. Keep an eye out for updated info as the game gets closer to release.
