Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 Plus

The Next Hyperdimension Neptunia Is Yet Another Remake

It appears that Compile Heart isn’t ready to move forward with the Hyperdimension Neptunia series just yet. Rather, it looks like the next title will be yet another remake.

Well, kinda.

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has revealed that the newest HDN game will be Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 Plus for the PlayStation 4. If this looks at all familiar to you that’s because the game is a “refined version” of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 which launched for the PlayStation Vita in 2003 (Japan)/2004 (NA and EU), which itself is a remake of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia which launched for PlayStation 3 in 2010 (Japan)/2011 (NA and EU).

As such, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 Plus itself is still a remake, but will be a port — a remastered remake, if you would.

The coming of yet another “old” Neptunia game will no doubt disappoint many fans, especially those who were expecting the next announcement to be one that “1,000-percent exceed(s) everyone’s imaginations” (this clearly wasn’t the HDN title Compile Heart referred to, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that (March?)). And one can only imagine that a “refined version” of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 2: Sisters Generation and Re;birth 3: V Generation is on the way, so it’s odd that CH didn’t package them as a whole set to at least encourage more who own the versions on the PS3, Vita and Steam to quadruple dip.

But even if some view this move as “milking” there is still some merit behind it. For example, Europe never got a native physical version of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 so the assumed coming of Re;birth 1 Plus to that region means they finally have a chance to get one.

In the meantime, its unclear exactly what will make Re;birth 1 Plus refined when compared to the earlier versions on Vita or Steam. Presumably, this means the battle system from Hyperdimension Neptunia VIIR will be present, but we won’t know for sure until comments from Compile Heart president and executive producer Norihisa Kochiwa, as well as a general overview of the game, are revealed in full in Dengeki PlayStation Vol. 656 on Thursday (Wednesday in NA).
