The Usual Suspects: Call of Duty, Star Wars, Super Mario Top Software Sales Charts in December

The December numbers for NPD software sales look like you’d think they should look in one of the biggest holiday shopping months of the year, at least for the top three games.  Call of Duty WW2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Super Mario Odyssey were the top three best selling games, respectively, in December 2017.

In a month that saw overall software spending increase 1% year over year from December 2016, it looks like irrespective of outcry within the gaming community people are still going out to buy games like the controversial Battlefront 2 in droves.  For the second month in a row, Star Wars Battlefront 2 sits at the second spot in the NPD software sales list.

Both November and December have been good to Electronic Arts and Activision.  Call of Duty WW2, which launched in November has held the top spot in sales for two consecutive months.  While Super Mario Odyssey has been moving up and down on the charts.
