Geralt’s story in the Witcher universe might be over and done with, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing him again. In fact, if recent comments made by CD Projekt Red are any indication, then we could very well see him again before the end of the year.
The hint was dropped by CD Projekt Red Community Manager Marcin Momot on Twitter where he asked, “What if Geralt was going to step out of the @witchergame for the very first time to make an appearance in one of the upcoming games later this year?”
Assuming Momot’s statement is innocuous and totally not a hint, then the strongest candidate would be Bandai Namco’s SoulCalibur.
One of the hallmarks of the SoulCalibur series is the guest characters and it has had many from famous franchises over the years, such as Link from The Legend of Zelda and Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin’s Creed II. Though they haven’t been outright confirmed in SoulCalibur 6, if any character from a modern game series is deserving of inclusion then it would be Geralt of Rivia. Thanks to Link in SCII, a character using a variety of weapons wouldn’t be hard to design and the concept of a character using two different main weapons (normal and silver swords) could have interesting gameplay implications.
Furthermore, Bandai Namco and CD Projekt Red already have a working relationship thanks to the former being the distributor of The Witcher 3 in Europe.
Of course, this isn’t a sure thing, but it certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility. And if Geralt does wind up in another game this year, then this could very well be the last Witcher-related thing we see in quite awhile (other than Gwent). CD Projekt Red is already confirmed to be working on a new game, Cyberpunk 2077, and fans are expecting quite a lot out of it this year due to a past incident on Twitter.
