It’s been over a decade since we’ve seen a new entry in the Wild Arms franchise, and finally the drought has ended, as Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that a new entry in the fantasy meets wild west RPG series, titled Wild Arms: Million Memories, will be coming in 2018.
There’s a catch though: it will only be available for iOS and Android.
For what it’s worth, the coming of a mobile Wild Arms title was already public knowledge back in 2016 when Sony held a conference and announced that reboot projects for both this franchise and Arc the Lad were already in development. Neither appear to be a throwaway either, as many of the original staff members (such as Akifumi Kaneko in the case of Wild Arms) have been stated to be involved in the project.
Of course, knowing that’s the case probably makes it all the more frustrating that yet another beloved classic JRPG series is headed to mobile platforms rather than consoles, joining the likes of Breath of Fire and Valkyrie Profile.
Wild Arms arrived on the PlayStation in 1996 and the series has gone on to receive five more entries. The last entry to come out on consoles was Wild Arms 5 for the PS2 in 2006, while the most recent entry overall was Wild Arms XF — which dropped the traditional JRPG gameplay in favor of a SRPG’s — for the PSP in 2007.
As for Million Memories, not much is known about it in terms of gameplay, but we do know thanks to the original announcement that it will feature characters from previous entries and have a new story.
You can visit the teaser website if you’d like to learn more, though all it has for now is some text and the game’s theme song.
