Woman orders wings from her ’10-out-of-10′ favorite spot, but what came out when she bit down has her reconsidering meat

That's super gross!

A woman from California had a really bad experience while eating chicken wings for dinner. Morgan Godvin, who makes content online, shared what happened to her on TikTok, and the video now has more than 1.1 million views.

According to Bro Bible, Godvin said she got the wings from a restaurant she really likes. She calls it a “very respectable joint” and usually gives it a perfect score for their wings. But this time, things went very wrong.

Something gross happened when she took a bite of the chicken wing. “This is pus because this whole thing had an abscess. And so when I went to go bite into it, pus shot out from the meat,” Godvin explained in her TikTok video. She looked really upset about it. The fried chicken had yellow chunks all over it that looked strange. Godvin said that “Multiple tablespoons of this leaked out onto the plate.”

This is exactly why people are switching to pizza

Godvin probably found an abscess in her chicken, which is basically a pocket of pus and infection that grows in chickens, usually around where their bones connect. Experts at Cornell Cooperative Extension say that people who check chicken at processing plants are supposed to find these and throw them away. Amy Barkley, who works with livestock at Cornell, explains that “If the tissue is pus-filled, it needs to be removed regardless of size.”

This problem is called cellulitis, and it happens when bacteria infects the chicken. Poultry DVM says it usually comes from E. coli bacteria and shows up most in chickens that grow really fast, especially ones that cannot move around well or live in tight spaces. The tricky part is that chickens with this infection often look totally normal from the outside, which means people checking them can easily miss it.

Abscesses aren’t just in steak. Your chicken could also have them. If you’re eating ground beef or ground chicken, burgers and chicken nuggets, you’re eating pus. Repost from 8 months ago. #chicken #meat #abscess

Godvin does not think the restaurant did anything wrong. She figures they got the wings like any other chicken and cooked them without knowing anything was bad about the meat.

She wonders how sick chicken like this can get past all the people who are supposed to check it before it reaches customers. This is not the first time customers have discovered concerning issues with their chicken orders. Earlier, a TikTok video showing a cow abscess in a steak from Texas Roadhouse also went viral on the platform.

@Texas Roadhouse For the record we absolutely love Texas roadhouse, I’ve never had one of their steaks. I always get chicken and salad, I’m just needing clarification because this is not normal.

This all happened at a tough time for the people who check our food in America. NPR says that the workers who inspect meat and chicken for the USDA now have to do twice as much work because many staff members lost their jobs. Paula Soldner checked meat and poultry plants in Wisconsin for 38 years, and she says workers now have to go to eight different places every day instead of four.

Health officials in Missouri are very clear about what to do if you find an abscess: “Do not cut into abscesses or eat meat containing abscesses.” A lot of people who saw the video said it made them think twice about eating meat.

One person commented, “i understand vegans more and more.” Someone else said they had a similar experience, writing “omg i ate chicken the other day and it had a bunch of those yellow bits, IS THAT WHAT THAT IS??? i thought it was just oils im so grossed out.”

Another viewer pointed out, “I’ve seen two Texas Roadhouse abcess steaks, one kitchen of a restaurant access steak, and now one chicken abcess. This is NOT a coincidence.” If you still want to buy chicken, some experts say paying attention to specific labels that can indicate better quality and safety standards can help.
