A video recently surfaced showing TikToker Catelyn Wiseman discovering what appears to be gauze inside a Jimmy John’s sandwich. The footage captures the moment the TikToker shines a phone flashlight on the sandwich to inspect its contents. As she pulls a material out of the meal, she says, “This is supposed to be lettuce,” as reported by BroBible.
She then tears the material into smaller bits to get a better look at what she found. She then turns to another person nearby and asks, “What else? Is there more down there?” The man replies, “Yes, tons.” The camera then pans to the Jimmy John’s paper, which shows more of the material mixed into the lettuce.
The TikToker asks, “Is it all like that?” and the man confirms, “This is all like that.” Wiseman answers that she told him so. The video continues with both individuals showing chunks of the material to the camera. They stretch and tear at the pieces to demonstrate just how much of it is embedded in the sandwich.
The man in the video says the material is hard to tear
At one point, the woman picks up a whole pile of the material and exclaims to her companion, “Look at that!” The man tears into the substance and notes, “I mean, it’s hard to pull. It’s literally cloth.” The woman remains adamant and insists, “That’s not lettuce.” The man agrees, confirming, “It’s like cloth.” The video also includes on-screen text that tags Jimmy John’s directly.
The message reads, “THERE WAS FABRIC OR GAUZE OR SOMETHING IN MY SANDWICH.” However, the footage doesn’t establish what the material is, as Wiseman’s caption stops short of naming it. It’s unclear which location the sandwich came from, and Jimmy John’s side of the story could not be independently verified. Viewers in the comments offered their own explanations for the Jimmy John’s sandwich.
One said, “That looks like a Lysol wipe.” Another commenter suggested it was lettuce that had been frozen and thawed, writing, “this is what you’ll get.” Another commenter joked that they were sending the video to their husband as his favorite subs were Jimmy John’s.
A few other commenters also replied with their own ideas, guessing that it might be paper towels or fibers. However, a commenter who identified as a former Jimmy John’s manager said staff are supposed to slice whole heads of lettuce daily without using any paper products.
