2K Games took to Twitter today to announce the release of the next WWE video game. The second installment published by 2K Games exclusively (they did a quick re-release of old WWE ’13 stock once THQ went under) comes out in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 28. International players will have to wait three more days and get the game on October 31. No details about the roster, new modes, or features were announced.
The series has been greatly hurt by a sense of sameness over the past decade, and while it’s easy to hope for change with the next-gen versions, odds are slim that things will be too different. The engine has felt archaic for a long time, and even though things like revamped finishers have helped make matches more exciting, those changes haven’t meant much for the core game. With E3 right around the corner, one would expect a presentation from 2K on the game and an announcement of some new features.
