Ys VIII for PS4 Leads a Soft Week of Sales in Japan

Recommended Videos

Japan continues to be on a soft period of sales after the Golden Week holidays. However, the numbers are starting to grow little by little, and we see some games with a good performance on the charts. This week’s chart topper is the PS4 port of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, a thrilling action-RPG that with this version its consolidating this entry as the best selling game in the series. While the numbers seem low for a number one entry, they are good news for the type of release this is, a late port from a niche RPG series.

The next highest entry of the week is Nintendo Switch’s exclusive Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, which enters at number 3 with a poor 16.404 copies sold. In our review we thought the game was being sold at a higher price than it was worth, and the public seem to agree.

The rest of new entries, Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 for PS4, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 for PSVita also failed to make an impression. In absence of strong entries, the rest of the games had soft drops, especially Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter XX and Pokemon Sun/Moon for Nintendo 3DS, or Nier: Automata for PS4, which keeps surprising with its long term sales.

On the hardware list most consoles had very slight increases compared to last week, which is a sign that the low period of sales after Golden Week has passed.
