Jump Force - Yugi Moto

Yugi Plays His Best Hand in New Jump Force Trailer

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Bandai-Namco hit fans with two new reveals for their manga crossover fighting game: Jump Force. Of these, Yu-Gi-Oh!’s Yugi Muto is certainly the greater, but the new Golden Gate bridge arena has some eye brow-raising potential too. Yugi’s inclusion in the game was already teased in earlier trailers, but it wasn’t until today that fans could see exactly what kind of fighter he’s going to be. As one would hope, Yugi fights just like a Dual Monsters master should: as a summoner.

As seen in the trailer, Yugi doesn’t engage his opponents directly. Instead, he summons substitutes from a selection of his favorite Dual Monsters cards. The King of Games will be fighting the likes of Frieza and Goku with his Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, and Slifer the Sky Dragon cards. Each has its own set of attacks, and it seems that certain abilities can be combined with those of others to terrible effect. One would think that he’ll be able to summon the first two characters at will, but perhaps not Slifer.

As one of the extremely powerful “Egyptian god” cards, it would make sense for Slifer the Sky Dragon to function as a finishing move rather than a normal attack. At any rate, Yugi isn’t entirely reliant on his monsters here, he’s also capable of use spell and trap cards to turn the tide if the battle starts pulling away from him.

Yugi’s skills are showcased at the newly-revealed Golden Gate Bridge arena. Astute viewers will notice that it’s surrounded by several large statues instead of being the solitary feature it normally is. These are from Naruto’s “Valley of the End,” which the iconic west coast landmark appears to have fused with. Good thing Yugi has a couple of powerful magic users at his disposal, or getting these places untangled would be quite a bit more difficult.

Jump Force launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in February 2019.
