Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel just took a moment during his show to publicly thank President Donald Trump for accidentally making him one of the most-searched people on the entire planet. During his latest monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the comedian noted that he was the third most trending person on Google for 2025, as per Fox News.
It’s a truly spectacular backfire, especially since the president has spent much of the year repeatedly criticizing the comedian and demanding that ABC fire him. Kimmel joked that he had President Trump to thank for the honor. “None of this would’ve ever happened without the support of loyal viewers like President Trump, who has done so much this year to raise awareness for our show,” the anti-Trump comedian said.
All that attention, both positive and negative, certainly paid off. Google published its list of the most searched topics for 2025, and Kimmel landed at number three in the worldwide category for most searched people. He managed to beat out some pretty high-profile folks, including Pope Leo XIV and Tyler Robinson, who is the suspected assassin of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel joked that the top two spots were reserved for people involved in “murders”
The number one spot went to a singer named “d4vd,” who spells his name with a ‘4’ instead of an ‘a.’ Kimmel said, “I’m not sure if it’s an honor, because number one was a singer named David who spells his name with a ‘4’ instead of an ‘a,’ who is a suspect in a murder, which I guess got him bumped up.” He noted that number two was rapper Kendrick Lamar, who “murdered Drake this year at halftime of the Super Bowl.”
Kimmel concluded the bit by saying, “Thank you, Mr. President, for making me number three in the world.” This ranking is the ultimate irony because the two men have been constantly criticizing each other this year. President Trump has repeatedly attacked the late-night host on social media, calling him “untalented” and demanding he be taken off the air. Last month, President Trump took to his platform Truth Social to post a lengthy attack.
Kimmel couldn’t help but crack a joke about the president being a dedicated viewer, though. He pointed out that the post was made at 12:49 AM, just eleven minutes after the show finished airing on the East Coast. “He watches us live,” Kimmel said. “Hi, Mr. President! How are you? Thanks for watching us on TV instead of on YouTube, it’s viewers like you who keep us on the air, ironically.”
Despite all the controversy and attempts to get him removed, Kimmel still had the perfect public response to the president’s demands. He offered a simple deal: “I’ll go when you go, OK? We’ll be a team. Let’s ride off into the sunset together like Butch Cassidy and the Suntan Kid.” It seems like all the presidential criticism just turned into free marketing, which is a pretty sweet deal for the late-night host.
