Donald Trump’s wild social media tirade against Robert De Niro descends into chaos, making a truly unhinged ‘Criminal’ claim

The rantings just don't stop.

President Trump recently launched into a truly wild social media tirade on Truth Social, culminating in the astonishing claim that actor Robert De Niro’s actions were “seriously CRIMINAL!” as reported by The Guardian. This intense declaration came following De Niro’s recent public criticisms of the president.

It all kicked off after De Niro appeared on Monday’s episode of The Best People with Nicole Wallace. The actor, who has been a vocal critic of President Trump’s politics and competence for a while now, said, “He’s an idiot. We gotta get rid of him. He’s gonna ruin the country.” De Niro also emphasized that Americans who don’t support President Trump are “Americans too,” pushing back against the idea that MAGA supporters are the only true patriots.

The situation escalated when De Niro took center stage at the “State of the Swamp” event in Washington, an alternative gathering to President Trump’s State of the Union address. In an emotional speech, De Niro described the president as “failing, flailing and desperate,” expressing that he felt “betrayed by my country.”

De Niro’s criticisms of President Trump are certainly not new

President Trump’s response on Truth Social didn’t just target De Niro, he also proposed deporting Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, claiming they “screamed uncontrollably last night at the very elegant State of the Union.” He called them “Low IQ” and described their “bulging, bloodshot eyes of crazy people, LUNATICS, mentally deranged and sick who, frankly, look like they should be institutionalised.”

Then, President Trump explicitly connected De Niro to this group, adding, “They should actually get on a boat with Trump Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying – some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!”

He continued by saying, “When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realised that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States.”

Before President Trump’s re-election in 2024, De Niro stated he felt President Trump and his allies were “not real Republicans.” He called the president “a jerk, an idiot… and a clown.” While he isn’t a huge fan of Kamala Harris, De Niro did say she was “at least… sensitive to the condition of the country, the people.” He acknowledged that “She’ll make mistakes,” because “everybody does,” but stressed that “we need somebody with the right intentions, this guy does not have the right intentions, and everybody knows that. It’s insanity. Period.”

President Trump frequently uses the phrase “Trump derangement syndrome” to describe his political opponents. This term has caused considerable backlash in the past, especially when he suggested it was the cause of the death of the late Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
