Marjorie Taylor Greene has disclosed details of a private conversation she claims she had with Donald Trump after she threatened to publicly release the names of alleged abusers mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein files. According to Greene, that exchange marked the definitive end of their political relationship.
Greene, who was once considered one of Trump’s most loyal allies in Congress, has increasingly distanced herself from the former president in recent months. She has since emerged as one of his more vocal Republican critics, a shift she says is rooted in disagreements over transparency and accountability; particularly surrounding the Epstein files.
The congresswoman has been outspoken in her calls for the full release of documents tied to Epstein, arguing that the public deserves to know who was involved. Greene was one of only four Republicans to sign a petition that successfully forced a House vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a move that went against Trump’s wishes. In a recent interview with The New York Times, she disclosed how Trump tried to silence her.
Trump allegedly called Greene and yelled at her over the Epstein files
Despite Trump’s reported efforts to block the legislation, the act ultimately passed, representing a significant political defeat for him on the issue. Greene has framed the vote as a victory for transparency, while also suggesting it exposed deep divisions within the Republican Party.
After a news conference where Greene threatened to name the men who abused women, Trump reportedly called her at her Capitol Hill office. According to Greene, he was yelling on the phone.
Greene said Trump told her during the call that “my friends will get hurt” if the names were released. The controversy adds to Trump’s ongoing political challenges and declining support.
New York Times writer Robert Draper reported that Greene also asked Trump to invite some of Epstein’s female victims to the Oval Office. According to Greene, Trump angrily told her the victims had done nothing to deserve that honor.
Draper wrote that this phone call would be the last conversation Greene and Trump would ever have. The two have not spoken since.
Greene also made other claims about Trump in the interview. She said Trump has “trained” Republicans to never apologize or admit when they are wrong. “You just keep pummeling your enemies, no matter what,” Greene said. “And as a Christian, I don’t believe in doing that.” Critics of the Trump administration’s controversial policy changes have pointed to similar aggressive tactics.
