Stephen Colbert recently shared what he would do if he could swap bodies with someone for a day. His answer was President Donald Trump, and his reason might surprise many people. The Late Show host made this comment during Slate’s Political Gabfest event.
According to People, CBS News journalist John Dickerson asked the 61-year-old comedian a simple question about switching bodies with anyone for 24 hours. Colbert admitted his answer was predictable. He said he would slip inside the skin of the president, someone he has often clashed with over the years.
“I mean, it’s such a predictable answer for me. But I would slip inside the skin of our president,” he immediately replied. As expected, he was asked about why he would want to swap bodies with a man he makes fun of all the time. The comedian, however, had a pretty convincing answer.
Colbert’s plan involves a simple presidential resignation
When asked why he would want to be Trump, Colbert gave a quick and clear answer. He said he would resign from the presidency immediately. No drama, no scandals, and no confessions would be involved.
Colbert explained that Trump could leave on a high note. The president could simply say he’s the best ever and decide to go out on top after accomplishing everything. It would be a glorious ending without any chaos.
“I’ve anticipated this. No scandal, no confession, no Sturm und Drang,” Colbert explained. “Just go, ‘It’s been great. I’m the best, ever. I’m gonna go out on top. I’ve done everything. I’m just gonna go.’ That’s it. It can be a glorious ending, just end it.”
The comedian then wondered if the body swap would work both ways. He joked that if Trump took over his body for 24 hours, he would tell his wife to visit her sister for a while. The ongoing tension between Trump and his critics has been evident, with tensions between Trump and his allies making headlines recently.
This comment comes after Trump recently attacked Colbert on Truth Social. The president called him a “pathetic trainwreck” with no talent or success in show business. Trump also said CBS should end the show now.
Colbert announced in July that his show will end in May 2026 after 10 seasons. During the same event, he also answered whether he would run for president in 2028. He firmly said he should not run for office, despite fans asking him about it. Meanwhile, Trump’s controversial connections continue sparking debates across social media platforms.
