Podcast host Joe Rogan absolutely ripped into President Trump’s recent addition to the White House, a “Presidential Walk of Fame” featuring plaques that describe past leaders in what Rogan called “so crazy” language, as per The Hill. The host discussed the issue with comedian Shane Gillis on an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” released on Christmas Day. Rogan stated this move sets a really bad precedent for the future of the presidential residence.
Rogan argued that the current commander-in-chief shouldn’t be allowed to write these historical descriptions. He thinks historians should be handling the plaques along the “Presidential Walk of Fame,” not the person who currently occupies the office. He specifically called out the plaque dedicated to former President Biden, which referred to him using the president’s common nickname, “Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Rogan read the text directly, and you can tell he was pretty astonished by the audacity of the language. “This is so crazy,” Rogan told Gillis. He continued by reading the text, “‘Nicknamed both “Sleepy” and “Crooked,”’ — by you! Nicknamed?” Rogan reacted strongly, suggesting the plaque implied public consensus where none existed. “Like the whole public got together — ‘I’ve got a name for this guy!'”
What used to be a historical monument is now a cheap political stunt
Rogan, who has previously criticized blue state policies, repeated that the descriptions were “crazy” and said someone “needs to tell him like, ‘Hey, this is not good.’” He emphasized that this is a slippery slope. “You can’t do that, because other people could do that too and then the White House stops being the White House,” he explained. Instead, it becomes whoever is in its house, where the occupant could “just go crazy and say everybody else is a crook.”
The plaques were added along the West Wing Colonnade under photos of the former presidents last week. Many of the descriptions are clearly mocking the leaders in question. For instance, Biden’s plaque, which was placed under an image of an autopen, goes further than just nicknames; it calls him “the worst president in American history.” Former President Obama’s plaque similarly labeled him “one of the most divisive political figures in American history.”
The descriptions don’t stop there. Other plaques also inserted references to President Trump himself. The plaque for former President Clinton, for example, referenced Trump’s 2016 victory over Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Even former President Reagan’s plaque got an update, stating that the 40th president was “a fan of President Donald J. Trump long before President Trump’s Historic run for the White House.”
You can see why Rogan found this all a little much; it certainly makes the White House feel less like a historical monument and more like a campaign office. Gillis chimed in, noting that the language definitely wasn’t “not beating back the dictator charges.” While Gillis expressed hope that future presidents wouldn’t follow suit, Rogan was much more cynical.
“God, I hope not,” Rogan replied to Gillis’s suggestion. However, he quickly added that he thinks future leaders absolutely would copy the move. Gillis suggested that California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a possible contender for the 2028 Democratic nomination, would not do the same thing. Rogan disagreed completely. “Of course he would,” Rogan shot back. He argued that Newsom, who was recently dissed by Nicki Minaj, “copies everything that Trump does. He even tries to talk like Trump on Twitter.”
Rogan suggested Newsom would put up plaques talking about “how corrupt Trump was” or noting that he “was quoted as lying over 5,000 times by The Washington Post.”
