The X account linked to former Vice President Kamala Harris, now called @HQNewsNow, shared a political comment that Green Day made about Jeffrey Epstein and President Trump during a pre-Super Bowl concert. The account was previously known as “KamalaHQ” before changing its name earlier this week.
According to Mediaite, the rebranded account reposted a video clip showing Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, changing the lyrics of a song to make a specific comment. The post from @HQNewsNow quoted Armstrong saying, “The representative from Epstein’s Island has the floor.” The account shared this on February 8, around 8:15 PM.
The comments were not made during Green Day’s official Super Bowl opening ceremony performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday. That performance was fairly tame. Instead, the political statements came from their set at a pre-Super Bowl party held on Friday.
Armstrong’s Friday performance included strong political statements
During the Friday show, Armstrong also made pointed comments toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. He told ICE agents to “quit your s—ty-a– job.” He then said that the Trump administration would “drop you like a bad f—ing habit” once President Donald Trump’s term is over.
Before becoming @HQNewsNow, the account was called “KamalaHQ.” The rebranding happened earlier in the week with a video of Harris explaining the account’s “next chapter.” The tweet’s caption said this Headquarters would work as a “Gen-Z led progressive content hub.”
The rebranding received criticism online. Harris was mocked for trying to turn her official channel into a Gen-Z-focused news source. Harris has faced scrutiny over her recent memoir from political figures across the spectrum.
Now the account is sharing highly charged political content like the Green Day comment. The team running the “Gen-Z led” hub appears to be using the viral nature of the X platform. Harris has also been making controversial proposals about voting age changes that have drawn strong reactions. This means more politically charged content will likely be shared and spread on the account going forward.
As for Green Day, their actual Super Bowl performance on Sunday struck a more restrained tone. They kicked off Super Bowl LX at Levi Stadium with a multi-song set, though the band avoided the most political lines from those tracks.
The set opened with a nostalgic nod to Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), before shifting into Holiday, one of Green Day’s most overtly political tracks. The band performed the first two verses as normal, but skipped the song’s controversial bridge, which opens with a swipe at then-President George W. Bush, and moved straight to the finish.
