Rapper Nicki Minaj made a massive splash when she dropped into Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference and absolutely roasted California Governor Gavin Newsom, complete with a brand new nickname, as per The Hill. This surprise appearance at the annual conservative event, where Minaj spoke with the organization’s Erika Kirk, focused heavily on criticizing the prominent Democrat while offering high praise for President Trump.
Minaj didn’t hold back when Kirk invited her to address the governor directly. She started by deploying a nickname President Trump has used in the past, calling him “Dear Newscum.” That alone is a political gut-punch, but she followed up with a severe warning. Minaj stated, “We don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum if we have to. Please tread lightly.”
But the real kicker came when she cemented the new moniker: “That’s what I would say to Gavvy-poo,” she added. You can just tell that nickname is going to stick around for a while. The rapper’s criticism of Newsom stems largely from his support for transgender health care for minors. Minaj has also taken recent swings at the governor on X. Earlier this month, one of her posts aimed at Newsom read, “looks like there’s some new scum on the timeline.”
Minaj didn’t just criticize Newsom politically, she discouraged him from pursuing the presidency altogether
She suggested the governor should quit any potential race, telling him to “get on the nearest Jet Ski and let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race that you will not win.” While she was quick to slam Newsom, she offered nothing but respect and admiration for President Trump. During the conversation with Kirk, who just endorsed JD Vance for the next general election, Minaj was asked about the biggest surprise or lesson she’s learned about the current administration.
“Well, I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,” the rapper replied. She emphasized that President Trump has given so many people hope. She believes he’s shown people that “there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.” It’s clear she feels a personal connection, too, noting that “He’s from Queens, New York, like me.”
This isn’t the first time Minaj has voiced support for the president’s policies. She specifically praised President Trump’s recent action regarding Nigeria. This fall, President Trump threatened to mobilize U.S. forces against Islamist terrorists who are killing Christians in Nigeria. He placed blame on Nigerian leaders for failing to address the problem.
He labeled Nigeria a “country of particular concern” (CPC) because of the religious violence happening there. Minaj publicly thanked him for this move on X in early November, stating, “Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously.”
