President Donald Trump announced a five-day postponement of US attacks on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure on Truth Social, but the original post was quickly deleted after readers spotted several errors. He later replaced it with a corrected version.
According to Unilad, the initial post stated that the US and Iran have had “very good and productive conversations” regarding the ongoing war. Trump noted that he had instructed the newly renamed Department of War to “postpone” US attacks for five days. This comes after a period of intense conflict that began in February, following joint US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
The errors in the original post were hard to miss. “Which” was misspelled as “witch,” and the post read “I am please to report” instead of “I am pleased to report.” The post was deleted quickly, but not before someone grabbed a screenshot.
The typos drew mockery online, and the corrected post revealed the full scope of Trump’s announcement
Social media users were quick to call it out. One person speculated the post was “RUSHED in PANIC” given the errors. Another simply called it “Totally embarrassing.” Someone also raised a security concern, saying, “God forbid if his twitter is hacked some day.”
The corrected post, written in all caps as Trump often does, read: “I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST.”
It continued: “BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS.”
He ended with his usual “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!” Earlier in the conflict, Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum directed at Iran had already set the stage for this escalating tension. The announcement comes during a volatile period for global oil markets. Before the US and Israeli attacks began, oil prices were around $70 a barrel.
They have since risen sharply to about $113 a barrel. Iran has also blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil moves. Some are speculating that Trump’s post may have been an attempt to bring oil prices down.
After the post went live, prices did temporarily dip to $97.47 a barrel before climbing back up to $104. Trump has faced scrutiny on other fronts as well, including his controversial remarks following Robert Mueller’s death that drew criticism even from within his own party.
