Trump asked about Elon Musk on Air Force One, his answer reveals exactly where they stand after months of drama

They were on warpath a couple of months back.

Donald Trump recently opened up about his unfiltered opinion of Elon Musk in a candid interview, shedding light on the rocky evolution of their relationship. Musk had been an outspoken supporter of Trump during the 2024 Presidential Election, offering both high-profile endorsements and financial backing. Following Trump’s victory, he appointed Musk to lead DOGE, a government initiative focused on slashing spending and addressing the United States’ ballooning debt.

However, the partnership was short-lived. In December 2024, Musk abruptly stepped down from his role at DOGE, leaving Trump and the Tesla CEO embroiled in a series of public disputes. Trump expressed disappointment over Musk’s departure and the way events unfolded, signalling a sharp deterioration in what had once been a mutually supportive alliance.

The fight started when Trump announced his “big, beautiful bill” that would extend major tax cuts and spending changes. Musk strongly opposed the plan and called it a “disgusting abomination.” According to Unilad, he claimed the bill would destroy all the work he had done at DOGE.

The friendship appears to be back on track

Things got worse when Musk claimed Trump’s name appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files. However, Musk soon deleted all his tweets about this topic, which seemed like a big change in their public fight.

Trump and Musk now seem to be fixing their friendship. In October, Trump said the two were talking again after their disagreements. Musk later told Joe Rogan in November that while Trump isn’t perfect, he’s not as bad as people make him out to be. The billionaire is known for his strong opinions about gaming and other personal interests.

The U.S. president and the tech billionaire recently had dinner together. Musk posted that the meal was a good sign for everyone in 2026. On Sunday, January 4, while on Air Force One after Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro was captured, Trump answered questions about his current feelings toward Musk.

“Elon’s great,” Trump said. “He’s 80% super genius and 20% he makes mistakes, but he’s a good guy. He’s a well meaning person.” Musk shared a picture of their dinner on X on Sunday, writing that he had a lovely dinner with the president and first lady Melania Trump. Despite Tesla facing tough competition from BYD, Musk remains optimistic about the future.

The photo was taken on Saturday evening at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. “2026 is going to be amazing!” Musk wrote with the post.
