Warren Buffett just revealed that he hasn’t spoken with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates sinc Epstein files came out. This news comes as a significant development, considering the long-standing friendship between the two legendary figures. Buffett, a prolific investor who is 95 years old, told CNBC that the silence has been complete since “the whole thing was unveiled.”
Buffett explained his reasoning for the lack of communication, stating, “I don’t want to be in a position where I know things… to be called as a witness.” He also added, “I don’t want to be under oath,” clearly indicating his desire to remain separate from any potential legal entanglements.
For years, Buffett and Gates shared a deep personal relationship, extending beyond just friendship into significant philanthropic work. Buffett has donated an incredible sum, over $43 billion, to the Gates Foundation, the charitable organization founded by Bill and his ex-wife, Melinda Gates. Together, they also established The Giving Pledge, an initiative designed to encourage the world’s wealthiest individuals to commit a substantial portion of their fortunes to philanthropy.
Bill Gates, for his part, has faced intense scrutiny regarding his association with Epstein
Despite their history, Buffett mentioned that he believes “until it gets cleared up, it doesn’t make sense to do a lot of talking.” He fondly recalled his good personal relationship with both Bill and Melinda Gates over the years, but the current circumstances have clearly put a pause on their interactions.
Buffett didn’t hold back when talking about Jeffrey Epstein himself, describing him as a “con man” of the highest order. He really broke down Epstein’s strategy, explaining how he exploited the “weaknesses” of the men he drew into his circle. Buffett noted, “Men are going to like sex… and some of them are going to like not paying taxes, and he figured out their weaknesses.” He emphasized, “That guy must have been the con man of all time. He had a way of conning everybody.”
The investor expressed his personal relief that Gates never invited him to New York to meet Epstein. He said, “I got him to thank for not doing that,” but he also acknowledged the inescapable nature of the events, adding, “you can’t get away from what happened either.”
Bill Gates became friends with Epstein in 2011, which was three years after Epstein had already pleaded guilty in Florida state court to soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. This timeline is crucial because it means Gates began his association with Epstein after Epstein’s legal troubles were public knowledge. Emails and photos detailing their friendship have surfaced in documents released by the Department of Justice and Congress since late 2025, painting a clearer picture of their interactions.
Gates has previously addressed his association with the disgraced financier, expressing regret. He stated, “You know, in retrospect that was a dead end and I was foolish to spend time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him.” In February, he also apologized to staff at the Gates Foundation for his connections to Epstein. He admitted to having affairs with two Russian women, information that Epstein reportedly learned of, according to previous reports. However, Gates maintained at that same event, “I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit.”
The Epstein files contained some pretty wild allegations, including emails drafted by Epstein that claimed Gates contracted an STD from a sexual encounter as a result of “sex with Russian girls.” A spokesperson for the tech mogul swiftly and strongly refuted these claims, describing them as “absolutely absurd and completely false.” The spokesperson attributed these allegations to a “proven disgruntled liar,” aiming to discredit the source of the claims.
In a move that shows a willingness to cooperate and clarify his position, Gates accepted an invitation from the House Oversight Committee to testify about his connections with Epstein. While his appearance has yet to be scheduled, a spokesperson for the Microsoft co-founder confirmed that he “welcomes the opportunity to appear before the Committee.”
The spokesperson further stated, “While he never witnessed or participated in any of Epstein’s illegal conduct, he is looking forward to answering all the committee’s questions to support their important work.”
