President Trump attacked his former ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene at a rally on Friday. He gave her a harsh new nickname: “Marjorie Traitor Brown.” The relationship between the two has completely broken down. Trump explained the nickname by saying “green turns to brown under stress.”
He called her a “stone cold liberal” and asked supporters what happened to her. He also pointed out that she now appears on CNN all the time. Trump blamed the entire fight on not returning her phone calls. He told the crowd he is too busy to call her every single day. He said he has to deal with 218 or 219 members of Congress, 53 senators, and 212 countries. He also needs time to talk to his family.
According to The Hill, the president said Greene went on a rant when he didn’t call her back. She kept complaining that “He won’t call me back anymore,” according to Trump. He said he told her he just can’t return her calls and apologized. Trump called her “neurotic” for this behavior.
Trump claims Greene turned on him over unreturned calls
Trump warned that if he endorsed someone to run against her in a primary, it would destroy her in the polls. He questioned whether she was being brave by leaving Congress. The comment showed he’s ready to end their alliance completely. Critics have been quick to point out inconsistencies in Trump’s recent decisions, including his handling of drug policy.
The tension between them has been building for months. Things exploded in January when Greene announced she would resign from Congress. Her decision came right after Trump pulled his endorsement and threatened to support a challenger against her.
Greene has fought back with her own criticism of the president. She recently slammed Trump for comments he made about director Rob Reiner and his wife. Trump falsely claimed they were killed because Reiner didn’t like him. Greene called the comments classless and wrong for a president. Following the public split, Greene addressed her departure from Trump’s inner circle.
She also criticized Trump for not supporting a petition to force a vote on releasing Jeffrey Epstein files. Greene told CNN she thinks “the dam is breaking” on Trump’s control of the Republican Party. She noted that 13 Republicans recently voted with Democrats to overturn Trump’s executive order on firing federal workers.
