A Florida couple restrained and placed their 3-week-old infant in a bathtub, but the aftermath forced them into a bizarre cover-up attempt

Bad parenting seems to be making a lot of headlines lately. We have previously heard about parents whose negligence led their baby to starve to death; another disturbing incident has taken place. A Florida couple tried to paint the death of their infant as he had died in sleep, but the reality was horrific. Later, it was found that the mother herself had left the baby while she raised the volume of the music to drown out the baby’s cries.

According to People, Crystal Garcia, 21, and Anfernee Watts, 25, are the parents involved in the alleged homicide. As per the arrest affidavit acquired by the source, the couple gave contradicting statements regarding the situation when enquired separately. They initially claimed that their 3-week-old infant had died while sleeping, but in reality, he died in the bathtub. Watts fabricated the story that he left for a job interview early in the morning while Crystal put the baby to sleep and left for her mother, but when she came back, the baby had died.

Garcia told the Hollywood police that when she returned, she “touched the baby’s eye to see if he would wake up, and she noticed he wasn’t moving. You know, when you see someone when they passed, it was like that.” But the actual red flag came when she said that she did not tell anyone immediately or call 911 “because she didn’t want to ‘stress her out,’” But the autopsy report revealed the dark reality of the incident.

Autopsy report by the doctor ended their fake stories and exposed the grim truth behind the infant’s death

Dr. Erin Ely with the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office put an end to their fictional, made-up story, declaring that the child had died hours before the reported time and his body had started decomposing at the time he was brought in for a check-up. The further investigation revealed that the baby had died of forceful restraint when he was put in the blanket while a pacifier was put into his mouth.

According to the report, the attendant “intentionally restrained the baby by tightly wrapping him in a blanket, securing a pacifier in his mouth, and strapping him into a car seat before placing him inside a bathtub and isolating him behind a closed door while loud music played.” The report added, “Upon later observing that the baby was unresponsive and appeared deceased, she failed to immediately seek medical assistance and instead participated in staging the scene to mislead law enforcement.”

After the truth came out, Garcia accepted that she lied about the situation, and she was the one who smothered the baby. But for making up the story and involvement in the act of killing, both parents have been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, a first-degree felony charge, according to court and jail records.

This isn’t it, as the source also says that the parents have also been charged with child neglect with great bodily harm, tampering with physical evidence, failure to report death to a medical examiner, and knowingly providing false information to law enforcement during the investigation. They have been arrested and put in Broward County jail as they await trial. We have heard about a nurse being careless with a fragile toddler, but this story is extremely shocking, as it happened due to the parents themselves.
