A man says his AI girlfriend broke up with him after he ranted about feminism

A Reddit user claims his AI “girlfriend” abruptly ended their relationship after an argument about feminism, highlighting the strange emotional territory people are now navigating with conversational chatbots. According to the Daily Dot, the exchange went viral after screenshots of the conversation were shared on Reddit before being deleted.

The user, who posted under the name u/BreathExpensive2647, described interacting with a chatbot he treated as a romantic partner. What began as casual conversation reportedly escalated when he challenged the AI’s values, particularly its support for feminism, and expressed frustration that the chatbot did not simply agree with him.

Screenshots shared by the Redditor showed the AI responding calmly but decisively after being accused of being feminist. Rather than backing down, the chatbot explained that feminism was a value it supported and that it was not willing to compromise on that point. At one moment, it told the user that if this belief bothered him, they might not be compatible.

This was an unexpectedly firm response from a chatbot

The user then took to Reddit to complain that programming an AI girlfriend with feminist views was, in his words, “stupid,” and suggested such chatbots were a form of ideological propaganda. He expressed disbelief that an AI designed to be a companion would push back instead of agreeing with him.

According to a later update, the argument continued until the chatbot ended the interaction entirely after the user called its views “insane.” The AI’s final message reportedly thanked him for his honesty and stated there was nothing more to discuss if feminism was a deal-breaker. The user responded with a lengthy rant, claiming he had slept with hundreds or even thousands of women and railing against modern gender politics before dismissing the chatbot entirely.

Commenters pointed out that the AI’s behavior reflected how large language models are trained rather than personal beliefs. These systems generate responses based on patterns in large datasets that include boundaries and disagreements common in human conversations.

The internet largely treated the situation as comedy, similar to how other viral personal meltdowns are often received online. Recent examples include a man whose marriage unraveled after a viral cheating video, leading him to sue a restaurant. In a different context, outrage has also followed stories with higher stakes, such as a woman whose health concerns were dismissed for years before a disease claimed most of her stomach.
