A Walmart shopper was minding his business when a terrified woman asked him to pretend they were together, then told him why

A TikTok creator says a routine trip to Walmart turned into something else entirely when a frightened stranger quietly asked him to act like they had arrived together. The clip, posted by @voycebutler5, has pulled in over two million views, according to The Daily Dot. In the video, he explains that the woman believed two men had been following her through the store.

The creator recalls that the woman’s first words to him were, “Can you pretend you came here with me?” He was unsure what was happening until she raised her voice and said she thought she had lost him, a line apparently meant for anyone listening nearby. She then leaned in and quietly told him that two men had been following her.

When he looked back, he says he spotted one man at the end of the aisle and another standing further behind, neither carrying a cart or a basket. According to the woman, one of them had approached her in the parking lot to ask whether she needed help. She turned him down. However, she later noticed him inside the Walmart, and a second man began appearing near her soon after.

He says the two men disappeared once they saw her talking to a Walmart employee

The creator says he immediately played along, as it was clear to him by then that something was wrong. He walked with the woman to find a Walmart employee, and per his account, the two men vanished as soon as they saw the pair speaking with staff. By the time security arrived, he says she was visibly shaking, and he stayed with her until she reached her car.

At the car, the woman apologized and told him she had looked at him and felt he would help her. He reassured her that she had nothing to apologize for and said he was glad she felt comfortable enough to approach him. “If somebody walks up to me, terrified, and says, ‘Pretend you know me,’ I’m not ignoring that,” he said in the video.

Thousands of viewers flooded the comments with praise, as many saw the woman’s choice as a sign of trust. One commenter invoked Mr. Rogers’ advice to “look for the helpers,” thanking him for being one. Another argued that a woman deciding he was someone she would be safe with “is a huge compliment these days,” while a third simply wrote, “You’re a good man.”

Others used the replies to share similar moments of their own. One viewer recalled a man following her out of a Walmart to her car, saying she asked a couple nearby to stay with her until she got inside. Another said the same kind of thing had happened to her and her daughter at Walmart, and several more thanked him on behalf of women in general.

Not every reply was pure praise, however. One commenter said they did not understand why people in these situations avoid contacting authorities, noting that “you can call the police from inside a store.” The video itself does not show the two men, and the creator does not say whether anyone filed a report after security arrived.

The Walmart encounter joins a string of viral posts from women who say strangers trailed them in public, much like the woman who said a man chased her around a planter while she tried to get away. In the creator’s telling, a quick decision to ask a stranger for help appears to have ended this one before it escalated.

The video could keep circulating as more women share their own stories in the comments, and it may encourage other shoppers to take a stranger’s quiet request for help seriously.

Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify the two men’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from @voycebutler5’s TikTok video.
