The rise in data centers has become the norm at this point. However, citizens are already fighting against these centers, as they believe these centers could affect millions of lives. Speaking of that, a similar incident happened when several shots were heard outside the house of a congressman who had voted in favor of the controversial data center earlier.
As per the People, Fox 59, WFYI, and The New York Times reported, police received a call on the morning of Monday, April 6, about the shooting at the house of Councilman Ron Gibson, who had recently voted in favor of a controversial data center. At the scene of the incident, a note was found with the message “No Data Centers.” A total of 13 bullets were fired at the congressman’s house, who was there with his 8-year-old son at the time of the crime. Luckily, they are both unharmed.
Ron Gibson, in his statement, said, “Just steps from where those bullets struck is our dining room table, where my son had been playing with his Legos the day before,” Gibson added. “That reality is deeply unsettling. This was not just an attack on my home, but endangered my child and disrupted the safety of our entire neighborhood.”
The crime was apparently an act to threaten him for voting in favor of a controversial data center
Gibson was among the majority on the Metropolitan Development Commission who voted on April 1, 2026, to rezone property in Indianapolis’s Martindale-Brightwood area for a planned data center, according to WFYI. He voted in favor of the center, which might have bothered people who did not want the data center built, and the shooting seemingly was a reaction to that vote. Even Trump joined forces with Democrat governors to address rapid AI expansion, but attacking a councilman’s house is a move that has gone too far.
Ron Gibson himself affirmed the reason, saying, “I understand that public service can bring strong opinions and disagreement, but violence is never the answer, especially when it puts families at risk.” Gibson added. “I am a public servant, but I am also a father and a neighbor. This act brought violence into our neighborhood, the very thing I work every day to stand against.”
Even though the voting has not yet been completed and the crime appears to be an attempt to stop Rob from voting, some details remain unclear. For that, the FBI is assisting the local police in getting their hands on the offender before he takes any drastic measures against other congressmen. Regardless, the situation that Gibson got into with his 8-year-old was indeed terrifying, and with authorities looking into the matter, justice is expected to be served soon.
