In the wild world of food influencing, where one viral clip can bring a business to its knees, serving great food and drinks just isn’t enough anymore. You also have to be ready to defend yourself against unfair attacks. A San Jose, California Mexican restaurant called Tostadas successfully defended itself against a damaging social media video by posting security footage that showed exactly how the complaining influencer violated the rules.
This whole mess started when a TikTok creator, using the handle @breeestaxx, posted a video misrepresenting her experience at Tostadas, as reported by BroBible. The restaurant quickly decided to “clap back,” sharing its own security camera footage that told a dramatically different story. Commentary creator Daadi (@daadisnacks), who owns a snack company, later retold the events in a video that quickly racked up over 1.1 million views.
The influencer’s original complaint centered on the inability to order an alcoholic beverage. She claimed that the staff tried to ID both her and her partner. “I didn’t have my ID, so I had a picture of my ID,” the influencer complained in her clip. Here’s where you have to understand the basic rules of running a business that serves liquor, especially in California. According to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), a bar or restaurant isn’t legally obligated to sell alcohol to anyone.
You don’t have a legal right to buy alcohol, and businesses have every right to refuse service to anyone who doesn’t present a valid ID
A picture of an ID simply doesn’t cut it. It’s a liability nightmare for the business if they serve minors. As one commenter joked, “I tried to pay for my food with a picture of some cash, and they wouldn’t take it! I swear these freaking restaurants are so ridiculous.” Another commenter, who identified as a bartender, perfectly summed up the situation: “Bartender here. A picture of your ID gets you a picture of your drink of choice.”
The influencer and her partner eventually managed to order a drink, possibly because her partner presented a valid physical ID. But then came the real issue. The influencer claimed she was only ordering the drink to record it for content and had no interest in actually consuming it. “I’m literally recording everything, all our food, to post,” she insisted in her video.
The footage Tostadas provided, however, completely contradicted that claim. The security camera showed the influencer filming the dish, but then she clearly reached over to her partner’s side of the table, grabbed the drink, and took a sip. She does this at least twice.
When you violate a policy, especially one tied to alcohol service, a business has every right to step in. That’s exactly what Tostadas did. The restaurant staff quickly took the remaining food and drinks away, refusing to serve them any longer. The clip showed @breeestaxx attempting to throw her food at the staff and even hurling a ketchup bottle across the dining room, all while other customers, including a child, were nearby.
After Tostadas shared its version of events, the influencer appears to have deactivated her account. And just like the Catania restaurant, which inadvertently revealed a customer’s affair, you can’t fault the business here.
