A Walmart shopper has gone viral after posting a warning to others about a shocking price jump that nearly added $90 to her bill at checkout. The incident highlights why shoppers should always double-check the total on the payment screen, especially when using self-checkout lanes during busy shopping hours.
According to Daily Dot, the shopper, who goes by the username @nobrasallowed on TikTok, shared the experience from a recent trip to Walmart. According to her video, everything seemed normal at first. After scanning her items, the self-checkout screen showed a total of $108, which matched what she expected to pay.
However, things changed the moment she inserted her card to complete the purchase. Instead of the $108 total, the card reader suddenly displayed a charge of $193. Realizing something was wrong, she quickly removed her card before the payment could go through.
This suspicious pricing error raises serious questions about checkout accuracy
She then called over a Walmart employee for help. The worker moved the transaction to a different register and re-rang the items. This time, the total correctly came out to $108, confirming that the higher amount was an error. The shopper said the issue was resolved, but she shared the video to warn others to stay alert and never assume the checkout total is correct without checking it carefully.
The shopper didn’t complete the $193 payment, so she’s not sure if the machine would have charged her the extra $90. Still, she thought the error was very strange and wanted to warn other shoppers. She told people to be careful and pay extra attention when shopping.
She said it perfectly when she wondered, “I wonder how many people paid extra without noticing.” You shouldn’t have to check a big retailer’s computer systems just to buy groceries safely. This isn’t the first time Walmart shoppers have raised concerns about store practices.
Many people responded to her post and said they’ve seen similar problems. Some shoppers shared other checkout errors they’ve noticed and worried about how many mistakes they might have missed over time.
Another shopper described a weird problem they saw twice in one week. After scanning an item, the system automatically added the next size up of that product along with the one they actually scanned.
This meant they were charged for two items when they only picked up one. They said the receipt showed an employee had to manually remove the extra item, and they believed it felt intentional. Walmart pricing issues have become a hot topic, with other customers discovering unusual pricing problems at checkout.
