Denver bartender just revealed a wild secret confessing that she sees everything on your phone, and it’s all due to this payment method

I'd rather use cash.

A Denver bartender just revealed a wild secret about how she handles customer payments, and honestly, it’s a total privacy invasion for the customer. Gabriella Masseran, who works in the city and posts on TikTok as @gabriellamasseran, is spilling the piping hot tea about what happens every time you settle up using Apple Pay at her bar.

Masseran’s video has already been watched by over 55,000 people, and you can see why. It hits on a fundamental fear we all have when handing over our devices. She noted right at the start of her video that lots of people are using the payment method lately, which is totally fine. However, it forces her to take the customer’s iPhone behind the bar to use the “credit card device thingy.” While she’s holding the device, Masseran admits that she sees absolutely everything on your screen.

This is awful for anyone who values their privacy. Seriously, if you have any secrets, you’d better use a physical card. She emphasized that she sees “Everything,” and she means it. That means she’s seeing your wallpapers, clocking your screen savers, reading your text previews, and perhaps most tellingly, noticing exactly how you’ve named your contacts.

Masseran says she’s seen some truly shocking things

She admitted that she’s “totally judging you” for some of the questionable backgrounds she’s encountered. She paused at one point, sorting through what must be a library of images she can’t unsee. She noted that she’s “seen some crazy things.” It gets worse, though; she specifically mentioned that she’s “seen a naked girl on it.” She questioned why anyone would compel themselves to put those kinds of images in a semi-public “place.”

Wallpapers are one thing, but text messages are where the real drama happens. She shared a particularly messy anecdote about one guy who received texts from two different people while she was holding his phone. She alleged he had them saved in his contacts as “No. 1 Main H** and No. 2 H**.” She issued a direct warning to her viewers, saying, “Girls, be wary out here in Denver.”

After Masseran’s video went viral, viewers were hung up on the logistics of the situation. Many questioned why the bar didn’t have a mobile or detachable card reader, asking if she worked at a “3rd world dive bar.” Masseran clarified the process in the comments, explaining that the moment the transaction goes through, the phone’s screen goes straight back to the wallpaper. This confirms exactly how she gets her sneak peeks at your private life.

So what’s the proper smartphone etiquette here? If you’re handing your device over to a server or bartender, you should probably assume there’s zero expectation of privacy. While you can say that workers shouldn’t read texts or judge your unread notifications, that’s just wishful thinking if you’re giving up control of the device. At least Masseran isn’t like the Missouri policeman who got arrested recently.

If you’re worried about your background or those late-night texts, you should definitely lock your phone before you hand it over for payment.
