Parents trusted a nurse to care for their medically fragile toddler, then disturbing surveillance footage forced them to run to the authorities

The parents thought the nurse can be trusted.

Even for a perfectly healthy child, hiring a nurse provides an additional layer of safety for parents who expect extra care for their little one. But for a child who is already suffering from serious health issues, the duty of the nurse multiplies. While nurses are out there protecting babies, the opposite happened in Pennsylvania. The parents hired a nurse to take care of their medically challenged child; instead, she ended up smacking and slamming the 3-year-old.

The parents didn’t just hire any nurse, but a 58-year-old Cindy Desser of Bucks County, who apparently has “twenty years” of experience in home care. According to People, she shattered the parents’ trust, abused their daughter, and was later arrested for endangering the welfare of children.

With criminal complaints obtained from WPVI, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and NBC 10 Philadelphia, the case is more disturbing than it appears. Cindy was hired specifically to take care of the child overnight. The child was far from the parent’s reach during this period, but later, the home surveillance footage revealed an alarming crime that forced the parents to reach out to the authorities.

If you think her abuse was limited to spanking, then you are completely wrong

The victim was a 3-year-old girl whose parents have chosen to be anonymous. She is suffering from multiple health issues that require significant care, the reason her parents hired a nurse so someone can look after her when they are asleep. Their daughter’s medical issues include life-threatening heart and lung conditions, which were a result of premature birth. Additionally, she also relies on a tracheostomy tube (trach) to maintain her breathing.

Cindy Desser, whose resume looked quite promising to the parents, ended up abusing the child in a way that could be fatal for her. She not only smacked and slammed but also shoved the poor child to the ground. If you think a son killing his mom was disturbing, this one is nothing less. The tube, which the child relies heavily on to breathe, Cindy is accused of pulling on and even partially removing it, which makes this case even more terrifying.

Given the child’s medical condition, the nurse’s multiple abuse attempts, including force, tampering with a critical breathing device, and delayed care has put her under serious legal issues. This wasn’t her first abuse case, either, as there is a video of Desser where she is assaulting another child. Additionally, local media and police have also mentioned her Delaware County child-abuse charges, which suggest that this poor 3-year-old wasn’t the only victim.

After being charged with endangering the welfare of children, Cindy Desser is currently being held in Bucks County Jail. She has a $2 million bail amount and is still under investigation, as more children could be her victims as well.
