At the end of a week, a little party gets the job done when it comes to chilling and forgetting life’s problems for a while. It looks like several young adults were expecting the same thing in Oklahoma City, where red-flag warnings were also issued due to wildfires. However, their party near Lake Arcadia took a shocking turn when a mass shooting incident left all of them running for their lives, as many were reportedly injured in this “very terrifying situation.”
According to the New York Post, this incident took place at no small setup, but at a large event called “Sunday Funday.” Per Newson6, the party had many young adults on board who were enjoying themselves at night. Though everything changed with the shooting that injured around 12 people.
Following this incident, the authorities arrived at the Edmond scene at around 9 PM after receiving multiple calls from the audience, per the press conference. The incident happened in front of a large audience, and it looks like the suspect wasn’t identified at the scene right away. The police spokesperson Emily Ward said, “This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects. We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses.”
The authorities say that the injuries could be more than 12!
The police are yet to identify a suspect, but whoever they were, it looks like they have left more than 12 people injured. Per the information from the Associated Press, 12 victims with “various conditions” were taken to different local hospitals. While this is the number identified by the authorities, they claim many others had already left on their own for medical help, which means the number of injuries could be higher.
Coming back to the people whom the authorities helped, three of them were taken to Integris Health Edmond Hospital, while the rest were treated at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center, per the information from the hospital system spokesperson. However, this is the second time in a while that we have heard about a shooting incident sparked in a party.
Not so long ago, something similar happened in Georgia. A shooting at a block party claimed the life of the 19-year-old Marquavious Westbrook and also injured several others. The authorities responded to multiple “shots fired” calls on Easter Sunday and came to know that two bursts of rapid gunfire happened at the gathering, which contained over 100 people.
Later, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation looked into the case and arrested 24-year-old Cleveland Lewis Pettiford of Fitzgerald, GA, for murder and aggravated assault. These, combined with a mass shooting incident in Louisiana, which claimed the lives of 8 children, many horrific shooting incidents seem to make headlines lately. For the “Sunday Funday” case, the authorities are working to identify the shooter ASAP. We wish a speedy recovery to all those injured.
