Two men were enjoying a crowded Whitby movie theater, but what they did next sent the audience scrambling for safety

Don't pull a prank like that. PLEASE!

In the world of social media, where some people love to create situations for fun, they sometimes cross the line, creating fear and despair among others. A similar sort of incident happened in Durham when a group from the crowded cinema shouted that someone was carrying a gun in the audience. As a result, the whole cinema turned into chaos. Later, the police declared that this was a social experiment that went absolutely wrong and became a crime.

As per People, the Durham Regional Police media release stated that they received a report at 11:20 p.m. on March 17 of an armed person at a Landmark Cinemas location on Consumers Drive in Whitby, Ont. At that time, the entire cinema was vacated, and the incident was directed at three males who had already left the building. Those three were then found to have carried out this activity as part of their social experiment content, which they posted on their social media platforms. Police immediately detained the accused and carried out an investigation.

All three, including Fique Wamiq Ayub, 23, and Jaiden Joseph-Anthony Mosquera, 23, were from Ajax, Netherlands. These youngsters, along with a 17-year-old minor, faced charges for causing a disturbance and mischief, then were later released.

Police are asking people to send in any video or security footage they have, even anonymously, to help build a stronger case

This prank is not as horrific as it was for a teacher in Georgia, who ended up losing his life; the youngsters involved in the theater were released on an undertaking. However, police are urging people who were at the cinema to submit phone recordings or surveillance videos to clarify the extent and severity of the incident. In their released statement, the police guaranteed that the identity of the information provider would remain secret for their safety.

Since these awkward social media stunts often trend, the authorities are seemingly working to prevent such incidents, as they can pose serious risks under severe conditions. Recently, a new TikTok trend named the Door Kick challenge went viral in the US, and police received multiple reports of people kicking doors of houses in the Seguin neighborhood. Due to the rise in trends like these and so-called social experiments, people can potentially get into trouble.

Whether as a prank or a weird social experiment, this theater incident might have taken an odd turn if the panic had turned into severe chaos. As a result, the authorities are encouraging people to submit evidence of the incident. With that, they can prosecute this case to have an over-lasting effect on anyone who thinks of committing such a reckless and non-serious act again.
