Amazon just overhauled Fire TV with new features, but there’s one glaring problem everyone’s already noticing

Took them long enough.

Amazon has announced a major update to its Fire TV interface. The company is taking inspiration from Google TV by adding features that make streaming easier. The new design will start reaching users in the United States next month.

One of the best things about Google TV is that you can see shows and movies from all your streaming apps in one place. You don’t have to jump between different apps to find something to watch. According to Android Authority, Amazon’s Fire TV is now getting this same feature with its new update.

The updated Fire TV will show content from all your subscriptions together in single tabs. For example, when you open the movies tab, you’ll see movies from Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV all in one spot. If you switch to the sports tab, you’ll see sports content from different apps. This works just like Google TV’s setup.

Amazon is finally catching up to Google’s smart approach

Fire TV is also copying another Google TV feature – a shortcut panel. You can open this panel by holding down the home button on your remote. The panel gives you controls for your smart home devices. It also shows feeds from Ring cameras and lets you quickly change audio and video settings.

Amazon is also letting users pin up to 20 apps on their home screen. This is a big jump from the old limit of just six apps. You can also quickly reach games, photos, and art mode by pressing the menu button on your remote. The company has been working to improve user experience after Amazon removed a controversial Prime Video feature following user complaints.

The new interface has cleaner layouts, rounded corners, new color designs, updated fonts, and better spacing. Amazon says the system will also run 20 to 30 percent faster in some cases because of technical improvements behind the scenes.

The Fire TV update will arrive in the US in February 2026. It will work on the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED TVs. Amazon plans to bring the update to more countries and devices in spring 2026. This includes both Amazon-made devices and TVs from other brands.

As tech companies continue improving security, recent reports show how hackers tricked major tech companies into sharing private user data. Amazon also announced an updated Fire TV mobile app. The new app lets you browse shows, manage your watchlist, and play content on your TV. This app will be available starting next month.
