A Hawaii doctor is accused of attacking his wife on a scenic trail, but her testimony reveals a terrifying sequence

Arielle Konig is currently on the stand testifying against her husband, Gerhardt Konig, an anesthesiologist charged with second-degree attempted murder. The alleged attack took place on March 24, 2025, on Oahu’s Pali Puka Trail, a day the couple had planned to celebrate her birthday. Gerhardt has pleaded not guilty.

The couple had traveled from their home in Maui to Oahu, intending the trip as an opportunity to work on their marriage. Arielle, a nuclear engineer, testified that they had been attending couples and individual therapy and viewed the trip as a potential turning point. Marital tension had reportedly developed after Gerhardt discovered “flirty” WhatsApp messages she had exchanged with a colleague in December 2024.

As reported by UNILAD, Arielle testified that while standing roughly 10 feet from a cliff’s edge taking photos, Gerhardt “grabbed” her “really forcefully by my upper arms” and began pushing her toward the drop. “I’m so f—— sick of this s—. Get back over there,” she recalled him saying.

The attack escalated quickly, and included a syringe and a rock

Arielle said she initially thought he was joking before realizing his grip was too strong and deliberate. She threw herself to the ground and tried to hold onto nearby trees and shrubs. While he was on top of her and pushing her toward the cliff, she saw a syringe in his hand. She testified she batted it away before he then rummaged through his backpack and produced a vial.

Despite her screams for help, Gerhardt allegedly told her, “Shut the f— up. Nobody’s gonna hear you out here, nobody’s coming to save you.” Arielle bit his forearm and pleaded with him, telling him their children would be orphans and that he would go to jail. Prosecutors in a separate case have been examining a murder charge with unusual circumstances that has similarly drawn public attention this week.

The alleged attack then took a further turn when Gerhardt began striking her in the face and head with a rock. Arielle testified she believed he was trying to knock her unconscious before dragging her over the edge. She estimates she sustained as many as 10 blows. “I do think I was saying something like, ‘Please help, he’s trying to kill me,'” she recounted.

Two passersby on the trail heard her screams and called out that they were contacting 911. Gerhardt froze, giving Arielle the chance to crawl away. The two bystanders helped her descend the trail, and Gerhardt was later found and arrested. Arielle was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for severe complex scalp lacerations.

Competing accounts in high-profile public disputes have been drawing scrutiny across multiple cases this week, including a story in which a Frontier Airlines passenger disputes her removal from a flight, with the airline offering a conflicting version of events.
